My roommate, Caroline, and I were excited. Our other third, Lindsey, had been asked out on a date by a guy she was digging. We were friends with the guy and trying to come up with some fun date ideas! You know, go to the park, go to the zoo, yadee yadee. Then, Caroline procedes with the most original date idea ever. She said, "Oh, I read this on the internet! (?) Go to KFC and get a bucket of chicken and a side of mashed potatoes. Then go to a park and sit at a picnic table and eat the chicken & then use the bones to reconstruct a model chicken using mashed potatoes as an adhesive!"
Silent stares of shock.
"What? I read it on the internet!"
Now, Caroline could never clarify where she "read this on the internet," nor could we ever convince her to attempt this on a date with a boy. She never lived it down, bless her heart.
Anywhoos, what are good date ideas? Adam and I have had some fun ones. We used to love geocaching on the weekends. ( www.geocaching.com) In Waco, we used to go "tortilla tossing". Basically, you'd go to the grocery store and buy a 100 or 200 pack of tortillas. (Oh, yes- they exist in Texas!) Then you would go to the suspension bridge over the Brazos River. 50 yards or so away from the bridge were some concrete pegs that used to support another bridge(?) -not sure about that one. Nonetheless, you would take a tortilla and throw it like a frisbee; hoping to land it on a peg. Most times you would fail and it would land in the water and the ducks would swim up and eat them like it was going out of style. They were fat ducks.
I feel like I've told about tortilla tossing on the blog before. Sorry, if I have. Adam was really pretty good at tortilla tossing. He would land like 23 out of 100. I would land like 3 or 4 out of 100, sadly. Oh, well- even if you miss, you're still contributing to duck obesity.
Got any good date ideas?

It reminds me that in Erie, as teenagers, if you didn't like someone you "forked" their lawn which involved buying the thousand pack of plastic forks and sticking them in the front lawn.
uh, you seriously got me on this one. perhaps they could go cow tipping......I dont' think abusing food is the right answer (tortilla torturer). oooh, if they live somewhere where there is snow/ice they could go skitching. Ask around about it. Back in the day my husband actually got picked up by the police for skitching and thrown in the clink for a couple hours. Luckily the police station in Titusville had a flood years back and it destroyed all the paperwork or he wouldn't have ended up with his Top Security Clearance in the Military (he was a russian linguist for 6 years from '92-'98). Yes, I think skitching would be a good date, unless of course, they live where it is warm....then perhaps tortilla tossing.....maybe if they leave them sit out for a couple of days they could skeet shoot them. Tortilla skeet shooting.
I have no idea where that fork thing came from....i have never heard of that, although it did remind me of that utensil you used to get at KFC that was 1/2 spoon, 1/2 fork........so now I am thinking it would be cooled to get "SPORKED".........
family life has this book called coffee dates or dates on a dime ... we just bought the coffee date book. it is supposed to be grand ... www.familylife.com
OK-I looked up "skitching"-YOUNG LADY YOU HAD BETTER NOT GO SKITCHING! Mom's Wisdom!
Now I want to know what Skitching is! Okay, what have we done? Ordered a pizza to go or picked up sonic & went to sit on the little bridge thats also railroad tracks (that doesnt work anymore.. the one that goes across the river) and had dinner. picnic in cameron park. camping is always great! drive in movies. OH - once we went to the dog show .. that was a good one & hilarious! Sadly, we have never done the tortillas.. I dont know how I havent! put that on the list to do before we leave.
Can you also please take the picture of the chicken bone thingy down......it looks like a velociraptor and is VERY disturbing.
So funny! I will never forget about Caroline's wild date ideas... especially that one. You know, I think I just might try it out. I'll post pictures.
