Here's a question on my mind today...How do tattoo artists get their start? I mean, I know that they are artistic but how do they learn to give actual tattoos? It's not like beauty school- hair may grow back but skin, once marked with permanent ink, can't be fixed quite so easily.
Who is the guy who let's a tattoo artist draw his first tattoo on him?

according to my research aka watching lots of LA and Miami Ink, they do their first tattoos on themselves and they apprentice more experienced tattoo artists.
Maybe they do practice tattoo's on manequins or cadavers or something...That's a very good question!
HA! The first thing that came to my mind was, "And now deep thoughts. With Jack Handy."
I definitely don't want to be their first client!
The guy who did mine learned in jail. No joke

i think they practice on grapefruits and their lower legs. from people that i've known a bunch have some pretty beginner level tattoos on their lower legs :)
When will you post again ? Been looking forward to this !
You seriously crack me up!
Haha, I know a girl who did a LOT of her beginning work on herself. (Which is an entirely different topic altogether. I could never inflict that kind of pain on myself, on purpose.) Years of apprenticing, and friends who have lots of faith I assume helps hone the skill!
First thing I thought of was pigskin because I think some young surgeons practice thier sutures on pigs. So, if we see any pigs waking around with tattoos we will know why.
