Cartwheelin'

My shoveling boys shoveling away the snow for Mrs. Prego Jennings here.

Had my monthly doctor's appt. this morning at 7 a.m.  Adam & I trooped downtown in the snow and were rewarded with hearing that little sweet boy's heart thumping away.  He was active and doing cartwheels, we think.  I would be interested to know what would have been my weigh-in last week (pre-thanksgiving) as opposed to today.  Hmmmm.  Oh well, I can't resist that spinach madeline!

Moving on to diaper Bags...what the heck? Some are $20 others are $750.  And there are like sixty kabillion with different features, functions, and foldy diaper pads included.  Any advice?

My advice is simple. If you value our friendship you won't buy a diaper bag for $750....

My advice is to get a diaper bag that has a comfortable shoulder strap. And make sure you can easily have the diaper bag over one shoulder while your baby is in the other arm...you may need to borrow a kid to test this out:).

I had a Bumble Bag that I got as a present. Very nice and very girly. I bought a Skip Hop that I returned, because I didn't need it, but I like it a lot. Practical, cool gender neutral. Not cheap, but less than 3 digits.

Oh and get one that includes a changing pad - that's the one must in my opinion.

Happy Shopping!

Okay I was in the Children's Shoppe today and saw your cute registry (i almost got your the little snapcrotch pjs with blue dots/circles on it--too cute)! I would recommend you get a diaper bag that is washable. You never know what might leak, dump, squirt, or spill on it. The vera bradley ones work great for hauling around everything plus they have a washable diaper changing pad. I had one big diaper bag for everyday and small ones for church. I also agree with all the other comments. Sorry for the novel-of-a comment. I would love to see you next time you're in town!

I second the washable/wipeable recommendation. Wide strap, several outside pockets and inside dividers, and in a design that your husband won't be embarrassed to carry.

SORRY for all of the tempting good food. Life is back to normal now and your eating wil be too. I will have to look up these diaper bags-DON'T HAVE A CLUE what they are all talking about.

Hey...times are tough. Who needs a diaper bag? A 30 gallon flex garbage bag will work just fine. And don't tell us next you're going to buy baby bedroom furniture. It's a rip off. All you need is a cardboard box and you can exchange it as the child grows. Don't get me going on those expensive baby car seats, strollers, and high chairs either. You just don't need this stuff. You don't want to spoil the baby do you?

OK-this is coming from someone who HAD to have the Kate Spade diaper bag the first go round(although you will have about 3 you use-fun to switch out!). Then when Landry came along I ordered a Pottery Barn diaper bag. FABULOUS and only 60 bucks plus the monogram.
With your first you always do more! The second child puts everything in perspective. But you know-if you find a diaper bag that you love and it is $$$$-I am all for it. Just keep this $$ to yourself! And then order the PB bag for a rainy day:). Have a good one!

All I know is Ive seen people using the Patagonia bags (i think they are their laptop bags or something) as diaper bags.. So I guess whatever you want to use will work for you! Glad you got so much advice!

Smaller (as in tiny) is better. We tried a bigger bag for #1 but it quickly became such a PITA that we dumped it. Even with a brood, you don't need anything big. You can always tell the rookie moms by the oversized bags they carry and all the gear that's in them. The ones who have done it a couple of times don't look like they're packing for an army.

Ultimately we used one of those insulated bottle bags like one of these. Since the outside is vinal, washing is so easy even Powers could do it.

You can very reasonably get a bag that is mini purse-sized or smaller that will hold everything you need for a 3-4 hour excursion: 4-5 diapers, a carry-sized box of wipies (about the thickness of two diapers), some butt goop, a disposable changing mat, an extra set of clothes in case Jr. messes up his stuff (with boyz it's typically everything - onesy, pants AND socks that get it), AND a bottle, liners, and either some of your moo juice or a small ziploc or tiny tupperware with formula and a measuring scoop.

The size of that bag is somewhere around 6" wide x 8" long by about 10" deep. If you pack reasonably, you can also reasonably get a wallet with cell-phone pocket in there, so you only carry one little bag, and Junior.

One other thing that's a good idea to take along: plastic shopping bag - in case Jr. soils his clothes.

Main thing that saved us with boyz:
1) Pointy side down always and forevermore.
2) Strap that diaper on him TIGHT.

I have three different ones I use. I have one big one I use for overnight trips (it is the perfect size for a short trip) and then I have two that I just like to switch out...one looks a little nicer with her name monogrammed on it and the other one is more of a fun bag. As far as the changing mat....the big bag came with a changing mat, but I have never used it so far. Target has some disposable changing mats (I think the brand is munchkin) and I just carry those. That way if we have a super dirty diaper I can just throw it away if it gets on the mat. Munchkin also has this little plastic bag dispenser that you can keep in the bag to put the dirty diapers in. The bags are scented so if you can't find a trash can immediately it will not stink up the car (which is usually where I change diapers).
When I get back we are going to have to go over lots of things you need! : ) I have found a swing (not the one in my living room) that has helped me survive the last 3 months!!

AAAHH... I really wish I could be there to go with you whenever you register- so fun! It sounds like there are a lot smarter people than I am making comments but from what everyone says I would def go with washable/wipe-able, w/ changing pad, not too $$, really I just used the one that someone got me and it has been perfect. It's not that big and that thing get HEAVY when it is loaded down...so really Megan's comment is the best :)

If you live in NYC with an apt. in Tribeca and season tickets to Broadway you go with the $750 bag.......if you live in Erie you go with the $20 Target bag and preferrably in cammo if you can find it hahahaha.

Dear Obsessive,

Camo is only cool in the county (Camo, cool, county). In the City or the surrounding townships of Harborcreek, Millcreek, Fairview, and to some extent Summit, Camo says either "Creepo" or "Country".

Now that I've lived in the country for a while, I've learned that not only does Camo mean "Cool" out here, but it also means "I pack heat", "hunts wildlife with truck", and "In the event of the total destruction of society, my family will survive".

The problem around Erie with bling bags is that the area is pretty provincial. The only people who will know what it is and how much it costs are Mrs. J's peers and the folks that frequent LPCC, LSCC, LVCC, EYC, and Kahkwa. Everyone else will assume counterfeit, if they recognize it at all.

So now we will find out - is she high society, or is she down with the folks? Stay tuned - dum de dum dum DUM!
